The teamn, coached by Bob French, played its first gaine of the season in the Early Bird tournainent < against the Mississauga Braves, who have been together for most of the surnmer. Whitby i'ed the gaine 3 - 3 with goals, coming from Cory Hass, Rob Vitale and Jeremy Lawson. Hass, Dereck Suddons and Vitale had assists. Marc Sheridan played well i the Whitby net. Ini the second gaine, Wihitby -defeated West Mail 4 - 3 in a 'seesaw battie. Troy Jenkins was superb in net-, while goalecorers were Paul Webb, Matt Jenkins, Vitale and Shane Terry. In the final gaine of the round-robin, with Whitby needing ta win to advance ta the semi-finals, Whitby defeated Goulding Park 5 - 1. Terry led the, way with two goals a nd an assist, Hass also had two goals. Paul Webb added'one of bis own. The serni-final- against Mississauga Jets was the longest gaine of the tournainent. The tearn battled the first three- perilods ta a 6 - 6 tie. Both teains played as though it was the championship gaine. The gaine went on ta a third overtime period when,ý with just over two minutes, remaining, Rob Danoey scored), the- winning goal. The gaine ended, at 12:30 a.m. After the exhausting seifinal gaine, Whitby face« the well-rested Mississauga North Stars Sunday morning -for- the' championship gaine. Jennifer Ellis was third Amanda Miles-Barry fourth anà Angela Miles-Barry sixth for Anerson junior girls , also first. Jason Clayton (brother of Jefi) was fourth, David Inshaw was sixth and Stefan Timins was eighth to give Anderson senior bo s top spot. I'aul Dwyer was a distant second in the teamn competition.
