The corporation wants to e7and living spaoe for the 17 lodgers now residing in the bouse located at 206 Byron St. S. There are no plans to increase the number of residents. Sims ýsaid the group's con- ditional ýagreement te, purchase the house expires Aug. 25. One of the conditions is that the rezoning be approved by that date.1 «It wouid be tragic not to go ahead,» said Sirns. Howev er, planning director Bob Short could not promise that bis departnient would have a report prepared by that date. Short said the number of mat- ters now before the department makes it!unlikely staff wiil have a recommendation ready for a committee decision. Normaily, staff report back to comniittee after receiving com- ments about a rezoning proposai from governmeént agencies and te publiC. That process can often take months, depending on the nature of the application. The group currently rents faci- lities on Coiborne St. and Byron St. N.,. that bouse eigbt and four residents respectiveiy. If the corporation is successfui with the rezoning, this will be the first property it bas pur- chased outright. The bouse is now privately owned and operated. Ail Saints wouid manage it on a non-profit basis. This funding wouid be restric- ted te operating costs only, said Roxborough. «The big hurdie is getting funding fron the Ministry of Housing to purchase the bouse,»' said Roxborough, who declined te reveal the purchase price. The bouse provides lodging for people needing long-terra care. Residents, both maie and female, lack some lifeskilis but are func- tionai in the community, said Roxborough. «Because it's liensed for 17 residents we don't want to, ailow it te disappear," said Sims. «It's zoned for a boarding bouse now and its occupied, we can't lose it.» Botb Sims and Roxborougb said neighbors have no coni- plaints about the bouse.
