"Seventy per cent of the funds, approximately $58,000, were raised Iocally and wiII help to support, the 10 existing Durham Region chapters of the 13 charities who are currently part of the FHC umbréela," said Russell. '"he remafining money wiII be used for medical research, health education and patient care throughout Ontario and across Canada." Ths was the seventh year for the canipaign which 15 an annual fundraising effort by Ontario goverrument employees on behalf of 13 provincial and national charities. Eveiy second year, two new charities are added. This year, the Canadian Liver Foundation and t he Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Founidation joined the campaign. The donated funds will go for medical research to find a cure for cancer, diabetes, heart disease and hemophilia or to improve the quality of life for those afllicted with health problems such as asthxna, cerebral paisy, kIdney or Alzheimer disease. "The Ministry of Revenue is extreniely proud of the generosity of its employees and the contribution they ]have made to easing the pain of others," said Russell. 'With FlIC we are helping people in the commumity, in particular the Durham Region. That is a grafilfing result."
