It is the month that over 80 million Easter Seals are mailed to 3.5 million households ail over the province to raise funds for Ester Seals ,'services that help the youngsters live fMler, more fildependent lives. Thie 1990' target in *4.5-million. Ontarians- have helped physically disabled children in their province since 1922. Neyer before has their support been critical. We are entering 1990 with a deficit and dilemma. A recent provincial study of services for children with physical disabilities showed that those provided by Easter Seals are unque. Our programs arecritical to ie nancial, emotiona and physical well-being of the families we help, there is nowhere else for them to turn; any cutback of our programswoud be devastating. There are urgent demanda for further services like respite care, additional camping places, and pre-9chool consulting to schools around' Ontario. We can only provide these through increased public support. Government provides only four per cent of our funding, the rest of our $14.5-niillion, annual budget is covered by, individual and corporate donations. The money helps provide: directý consultative services in the home b~y registered nurses; five residential summer camps; diagnostic duincs in Northern Ontario; financial assistance for equipment treâtment sud transportation; .parentJfarniy support groups; augmentative communication prgrams; pre-school sud rehabilitation research grants. These are not luxuries, but the basic necessities Of life for the children sud familles Ehaster Seal helps. Raising voluntary dollars is increaingly difficuit.
