The Whitby ladies played their first game on Dec. 28, against Markham 1. Whitby were al over Markham, putting them away by a final score of 7-1. Tink McKaque and Diane Taf- ford had two apiece while sin- les were scoredi by Ècdith Eber- ar,Anne-Marie Hoogereen and Darla May. On Dec. 29, their second game saw them beat* Scarborough, 8-3. Norma Ainsworth netted three, rfoojereen had two, and Bey Wilhiamson, MeKaque and Taf- ford picked'up one each. Their third gamne was against Markham 2 on-Dec. 29ý The final score was 5-0 in favor êf Whitby. Pat Goodine secured the shutout. Ainsworth scored twice, with a goal apiece from McKaque, Eber- h-ardt and Tafford. In their semi-final match against Markham 1 on Dec. 30, Whitby was outstanding, win- ninff 8-2. Tweens beaten in final The Whitby tween C ringette teain was dominating for much of tournament play in Markham on Dec. 28-30, but lost a close championship game to Etobicoke. In their first game against Markham 3, Whitby were al over the opposition, finally end- ing the assault at 10-2. Goals were scored by Carol Jamieson and Natasha Carter with three each, Kara Easton with two and singles from Julie Sudeykco and Jennifer Cotton. Ini their next game, Whitby continued to m aul the opposition, this time the unfortunate team was Scarborough. Whitby won 9-6 on some bri1liant gas fom Carter, who led the team with four, and right behind her was Jainieson with three. Sudeyko and Erica Giles added the sin- gles. In game three azainst Mark- hamn-2, Whitby let-loose for an 11-2 win. Jamieson had four goals whiler Carter had three. Leanne Bul- lough, Andrea Murray, Giles and Cotton each netted one. In their semi-final game agains Sayner , Whitby mana- gegd te curb the playoff pressure tew in7-3. Giles was the sharpshooter ini this match, tucking away four goals, while Carter had three. In the finals against Etobicoke, Whitby couldn't capitalize on scoring opportunities. That lus some great goaltending from E te- bicoke, led to a 9-4 loss for Whitby. For Whitby, Carter had three goals and Giles one. Whitby goalie Erika Rodrigues was superb in net, coming up with some excellent saves throughout the whole tourna- ment. Carter finished with a total of 16 goals in the five games while Jamieson had 10. After the win, Whitby fell into a rut, losing their next three games te Oshawa, Ajax and Markham 2, by scores of 10-0, 13-6 and 12-11 respectively. Bunnies ivin in Cambridge The bunny ringette team, sponsored by Rick Barlow, won a teurnament in cambridge on Jan. 6. Whitby defeated Cambride White 11-1 in the first game. g Teresa Budgen scored four goals Kerri Rodrigues three, Sara Vanderlip two, and Brianne Coonbs tucked away the single. In game two, on Jan. 6, Whitby defeated Cambridge Orange 6-1. Buen led the scoring with three goals, Melanie Laroque had two, while Vanderlip tipped in the single. The teamn won the gold medal. Whitby will next see tourna- ment action in Port Perry on Jan. 13. Petites fait to Kit chener: The petite AA ringette team sponsored by Midas Muffler, had a game on Jan. 7, against Kit- chener. Scoring for Whitby with three goals each, were AncLrea Babony and Jennifer Henry. Sharolyn Wouters and Crystal Annis picked mrp the singles. The petite team wyas previously in a teurnament in Markhazn. The first game, on Dec. 28, was againsqt Markham. Babony scored the three goals* in Whitb's 9-3 loss te Markham. On Dec. 29, Whitby beat Mis- sissauga 5-4. Scoring for Whitby was Hienry with two, while Babony, Annis and Wouters scored singles. Tlheir third game, also on Dec. 29, saw Whitby demolish Sud- bury by a score of 14-3. Leading the attack was Henry with five, Babony and Anmis wh tre while Wouters, Jen- nifer Drummond and Kallie Cor- neal had singles. The Whitby Highland Van and Sterage major novice A hockey team took the D championship i the Bowmanville Christmas Classic Tournament by posting a 2-0 win over Steuffville in the final. The first period of the final ended in a scoreless tie after Whitby dominated Play with a goodsécoring chance by Jason Hunter and excellent defensive play by Jason Dixon and Danny Te pattern of play continued in the second with good scoring chances by Andy Mueller. Michael Feret finally scored un- assisted on a Stouffyjîle giveaway, placing a shot low in uhe corner giving Whitby the lead. Whitby again had the edge in play in the third period with Paul atusiak just missing on a good pass from Paul Chornobaiy. Fialy, Ryan Whyte provided the insurance goal, converting a pass front Bbby Schlitt and Samnny Scheepers te make the final score 2-0. tI round-robinplay Eir Whitby posted three losses, 7-1l to host Bwinanville, and 4-2 te both Weston and Saltfleet. Bobby Schlitt scored Whitby's only goal, on a pass from Ryan Whyte, against the powerhouse Bowznanville team . Whitby gave Bowmanville its toughest game, with goalie Eric Carter making big gaves, holding them scoreless for the first period and te, a 2-1 lead after two prio ds. Against Weston, Whitby opened strong but were unable te capitalize. Weston, in turn, pep- pered Evan Johnston and took a two-goal lead after one pariod. In the second, Paul Heinrich scored a well-placed goal for Whitby, relayiXg a _ass from Andrew; Dale. Aer Westen res- ponded, Ryan McArthur tipped mn a shot from the Point by Stacey Bremner, making the final score 4-2. Whitby's Scheepers opened the scoring in the first period agfainst Saltfleet on a pass from Shane Neil. Saîffleet countered in the second perod with two quick goals beoe Heinrich responded for Whitby with assists from Feret and Neil.
