In Whitby'S first game againsi Amiherst, t h first period wenl scoreless. In the second, Amherst went ahead with two goals. Ini the third Whitby pulled within one on a nice pass by Brad Mcaughton to set up Kyke Crouch who tipped the puck in the Amherst net. Whitby dominated the third, but couldn't put another one past the red hot Amherzst goaltender as Whitby lost 2-1. Whitby then moved on to play a team from Flint, Michigan. This was an emotionally and physically demanding game, with both teams letting their tempers get the best of them, resulting in several trips to the penalty bx. Flint scored first, but Whitby countered with a goal in the second by Ricky Mace, assisted by Nicholas Owen. After two periods it was even at one apiece. Both teams entered the third eager for victory. Flint took an early lead halfway through, but Whitby got one right back on Crouch 's second goal of the tour- nament, Kyle W ailes assisting. The game stayed tied until the closing minutes of the game when Flint knocked in the go- ahead game-winning goal. Although having failed to advance in the tournament, Whitby took high spirits into their third game against Strat- ford. a teani that needed a win to advance to the consolation finals. It was even until midway in the second, when Whitby jumped ahead on a solo effort by Michael ýKonieczny who raced down the ice, swervinig.around the defence to park the puck in the top of the net. But Stratford came back qcklya 20 seconds later they baggd t he jr own to tie it up. In the third, Whitby hung tou h and -started. to. frsra t~e.. Oshawa slipped by Whitby 2-1, with Dave Silva the lone Whit-by scorer. In a late Saturday game, Willowdale Blackhawks took advantage of the weakened Whitby team by dropping them 8-2. Peter Maiers and Jamie Olenick each got a goal for Whitby. Scott Jenson and Olenick scored in the 4-2 loss to the York Toros. Jamie Organ, Presision Litho's only available goalie who was himself fighting fever, per- formed well in aIl games, facing an average of 27 shots. The avaliable defencemen were Mike Goode, Mark Scholtes, and Mike Molson. The other Whitby forwards playing were Clayton Stillar, Glen Roberts and Mike Brillinger.
