Stop- smoking courses at varlous locations Many health care facilities, sehools and businesses across Durham Region are now fiully "smroke-free," a dismaying prospect for employees who stili smoke. In some instances, the decision to become a ex-smoker is no longer just a matter of personal choice. However, the actual process of giving up cigarets is viewed with reluctance and considerable anxiety. With this in mind, the Lung Association of Durham Region bas scheduled its popular and successful stop-smoking course, 'Countdown,' in numerous locations across the region. The five-week programi will be available throughout the fail and winter in Oshawa, Ajax, Whitby, Uxbridge and Port Perry. Based on behavior modification techniques, Countdown currently bas an 79 per cent success rate. Classes are small, and ail sessions are held in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere under the direction of a trained Lung Association course leader. Unlike many commercial stop smoking clinics (that can cost between $300 or $400), the .Lung Association offers Countdown for a very moderate fée. Visa registrations can be accepted.
