SaWicki didn't allow a goal in the third period of that contest plyed before a packed house at Meniorial Arena in Peter- borough. But Milligan was the busier, as hie constantly thwarted Redmen forwards -pressing for the edge, or simply forced them into erratic shots.. Greg VanSickie, top scorer from mhe junior A Whitby War- riors, used those skills to put Whitby in the lead- as the final period wound down. The final was 8-6. Departing froni their usual home arena in Brooklin, Rdmen ch ose to play the seventh game at Iroquois Park were the floor surface is apparently larger and better suited to the Rcedm on run- ning attack. It didn't hurt Peterborough, either, as they jumped to a 5-3 first period lead, taking advan- tage of Redmen penalties early on in the contest played before a standing room only crowd. But Redmen came back, and Blane Harrison's goal to make it 6-5 for Redmen may have been a turning point. Quakers tied it, but Redmen again went ahead on a familiar combination as Keenan scored on a passing play with John Fusco. Gary Gait, whacked and wrap- ped up at almost every oppor-- tunity by Quakers in the series, broke loose in this contest. *He scored, apparently surpris- ing Milligan on a swooping low st whilestepping backwards, to make 'it 876before the first period ended. Colley started shakily in net for Redmen and decided to leave during the first period, Sawicki taking over. In th e second period, Paul St. John, one of t he outstanding players for Redmen in the entire series, made it 9-6 and Keenan, always a valuable playoff perfor- mer, blasted a 30-ft. shot to make it 10-6. Jeif Hardili then scored twice, one on a great effort, to make it 10-8 before the second period ended. .. But Redmen poured it on in the third as, Quakers failed to keep up to the running Redmen. Gait finished with five goals, Keenan with four and St. John with three. St. John had played with Ooquitlam last season when they played Redmen in the Mann Ou p final. Greg VanSickle, Harrison, Fusco, Brian Nikula, Kevin Antrarn and Rob Hanna had the other goals for Redmen. Bob Hamley and John Munro joined Hardill as two-goal scorers for Quakers. Jeif Vilneff and Brian Evans also had goals. Series starts ton ight FR OM PAGE Ai and skill in the seventh game to capture the series. They were stretched to seven games, as Peterborough not only ended the Redmen record for consecutive victories but went on to win two more games to take a series lead. Dynamic Gary Gait was shack- led for much of the series - he can expect the same treatment froni New West. Other key Red- men - John Fusco, Blane Harri- son, Terry Bullen - came to the fore. The series proved to be excel- lent preparation for a series with New West. "Basically, they'll be a big. team," says Vipond, noting that this wýill be the fourth Mann Cup final in five vars pitting Redc- men against New Westminster. «Vie know they're physical.» "'But we only play one way - we run."
