The artist bas created a series of paintings of prominent women who have contributed sometbing of importance to Canadian life. Her subjects include Madame Jeanne Sauve, actress Jessica Tandy, writer Alice Munro, and Betty Oliphant, founder of the, Canadian National Ballet Scbool. What she seeks in ber subjects is a sense of the spirit of these people: 'What makes these wonien who they are and wbat tbey are in spite of -- obstacles." Boone, like other women portraitists, rnay add a costume element; she tries to capture ber sitters at a specifie moment in their lives, often a happy one. Boone's approach is gently suggestive.
