N. to Conces- sion 9 in north Wbitby, just West of the Oshawa-Whitby townline. Emm said Please Save and Recycle Ltd. bas sold its Thick- son Rd. location and residents fear the owner, Doug Puckrin, may be moving the business to the rural community. There bas as yet been no application to the Town for tbe recycling operation, according to nortb ward councillor Ross Bat- ten. But be still bas bis reserva- tions. "The people bave reason for concern. Deep down I feel be intends to niove that business in "said Batten. Fie noted that Puckrin bas widened the road leading to bis property which could handle tbe recycling trucks. "Hie bas a building permit in for a bouse and farm-related building but we want to make sure be can't.bouse bis trucks," said Batten, wbo added tbe mayor's office and council mem- bers are on top of tbe situation. He also said he would bave no trouble working with a rate- payers' group in the north ward if such a group is formed. Emm said a residents' group can be both helpful to tbe resi- dents it serves and Whitby coun- cil. Ernm said he would not seek the position of president of the ratepayers' group but would adv- ise residents if asked. Draft assessmeizt submitted FROM PAGE 12 lor Dennis Fox. Blank said be took another tour of tbe experimental berm last week and was overwhelmed by the smell coming from the berm. "It smells like 'gas and oil, like a bad gas station" said Blank, noting that at a seminar on the berm at the Centennial Building earlier this year, Lasco represen- tatives had said the berm would be inert. Another concern for CARA is the possibility of leachate getting into Lake Ontario which is only 500 feet from the berm. It ma be several months beforePARIa and other inter- ested groups get a chance to respon d to the draft assessnient document. Blank'expects it will be at least next year before an environmental assessment hear- ing is beld, if approved by the ministry. '«This is a marathon race, not a sprint. You have to work within the procedures, within the sys- lie notes that long before a bearing can take place, Lasco's experimental permit will have expired, whicb could caus eLasco some Problems. - When à TheâStarSCorne Up, .Prices CorneDown! ru .iwaiel Graves Pure AppleJuice LIMIT: 4 TINS PER FAMILY PURCHASE SUPE S ICIA L-1 FROZEN, ASSORTED FLAVOURS Sara Lee Layer Cakes 369 g PACKAGE i mirT.
