&ij 4; The Town of Whitby has been asked to donate $750,000 over the next seven years to Whitby General Hospitai's $5.5-million fundraisingcampaign. The $5.5-miliion is the public, industrial and corporate share of the hospital's $12.6-million expansion. Work wili include a new wing ($6-niiliion), upgrading of equip- ment ($4.1-million), renovations ($1.9-million) and a new birthing center ($600,000). Buffett expiained the birthing centre is for women who are expected to have uncomplicated pregnancies. He explained that some cor- porations would also be given the opportunity to make donations over a number of years. Work on the hospital is expec- ted to begin in late 1991 or early 1992. By that time, the hospital hopes to have approval for the birthing centre. Buffett noted the Ministry of Health has not given approval for the centre. However with, a recommendation fron iLte Dur- ham Regior' District Health Council, ministry approval is expected next year.
