The Oshawa Motor Sport Club, an organization which has been around since 1960, has more than 200 participating members who reguiarly take their vehicles out on specially designed courses te pit their skiils against the dlock. *Solo I events are heid on actual horsetracks, but cars compete individuaiiy against a dlock. Solo II events are held on large paved 'lots through courses marked by rubber pyions, with the object te get through the course as quickly as possible while stili keeping te the course. The Motor Sport Club stresses that no competition experience is necessary and almost any car can be used in their event. For novices, the club provides in-car instruction_. by experienced instructors in order that anyone may enjoy the sport. Weather permi tting, a wide variety of modified and restored vehicies ineet on Saturday nights at the Bayiey Plaza, just west of Harwood Rd. on Bayiy in Ajax (across from McDonald's); and on Sunday nights at the K-Mart Plaza on Simcoe St. S., just north of the 401 in Oshawa. Both events may still be small, since the real "oid car" weather stili isn't predlict.able, but they wiii steadily grow as the nights get warrner. Another event you won't want te miss is the Pontiac Nationals North, hosted by the Classic GTO Club of Ontario. It's being held June 10 and il in Simcoe, Ontario, but the money raised wiii be donated te the Chiidren's Wish Foundation in Pickering. The weekend will feature a barbecue, poker run te, Niagara Falls, drag racing and a car show, and its open te aIl GMs, with special emphasis on Pontiacs, Firebirds and of course GTOs.
