The Through Other Eyes work- shop, to be held WednesdayMay 31, 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the Whitby Mail, helps senior public or pri- vate personnel understand the special needs of older, physically and developmentally handicap- ped persons. The two-hour mini-workshop is designed and developed by the Mnistry of Community and Social Services. Participants are outfitted with various devices that replicate declines in vision, hearing, mnobility, strength, agi- lity andsense of touch. 'Marketing, retail and, govern- ment personnel who have taken part in past Through Other Eyes sessions have reported that par- ticipation led to increased em pathy and understanding of, an d increased tolerance for, the service needs of elderly, physi- cally and developmentally dis- abled persons,7 says Fay McCor- kell, manager o seniors' pro- grams at the seniors'centre. The workshop is free. For more information call 668-1424. Festival of Songs The Whitby Seniors' Atvt Centre will hold the 'Festival of Songs' on Tuesday, May 23, at the Centennial Building. Tickets are $5 ($3 for seniors and children) for the evening concert. The choir recently received a first place certificate for unison singing at the KI Festival, and also earned a certificate for 85 points for part singing. j The centre will hold its May dance on Saturday, May 20. Centre.hosts cribbage The Whitby Seniors' Activity Centre will again host the crib- bage event for the up coming Durham District Senior'Gdames. The tournament will be held Friday, May 26, 1:30 p.m. Regist- ration forms are available at-the centre.
