The artifact found during exca- vations at the rear of the ibrary is a large C -clamp believed to have been used to place the foundation stones at the base of the building during construction in 1913. The building was one of the first, public libraries in Ontario, and was built with funds dona- ted by the Andrew Carnegie Foundation. Considered to be of hist.orical significance, the building was designated as a historical struc- ture in 1984.
