Mayor Bob Attersley will pre- sent a historical plaque to, the building owners, Nancy and Murray Miskin. The couple and son Daniel, aged three months, along with centre ward councillor Lynda Buffett, will then unveil, at the base of the librar? steps, a stone newly inscribed 'Carnegie Library, May 1, 1914.» Murray Miskin, whose law office occupies the lower floor of the building along with Chap- man & Kay mortgage brokers, will also present a historical arti- fact to Whitby Historical Society president Rod Angevaare. The artifact found during exca- vations at the rear of the ibrary is a large C -clamp believed to have been used to place the foundation stones at the base of the building during construction in 1913. The building was one of the first, public libraries in Ontario, and was built with funds dona- ted by the Andrew Carnegie Foundation. Considered to be of hist.orical significance, the building was designated as a historical struc- ture in 1984.
