The bon rspiel's executive were officiallyiýnformed last week that Sun Life is moving to a national level sponsoring both Skate Canada and the Candian Inter- national tennis championships. "'We got wind of a draft better. We knew unofficially earlier," said Gord Carrol, a inember of the bonspiel's committee and manage of ilie-Whitby Curling Club.'- Carroll said that while only one week bas ebapsed since the announcenient, there bas already been interest shown in sponsor- ing the event this year. 'There is nothing concrete yet. But we will have somnething in its place that is classy," said Carroll. Co-chairmen John Gardner, a Sun Life representative, said the committee wilb soon begin its search for a new sponsor. He also did not rule out a number of sinaler companies, col- lectively sponsoring the bonspiel. "T'«his is a prestigious bonspiel. We have no bard fee Zu Sun Life's decision. Paul MZ, MacDonneil and Lylyk scored, and Kennedy was named most valuable player. Whitby then tied Markham 2- 2, with Mark Babony and Lylyk getting the Whitby goals. Lylyk was nam.ed most valuable player. In the semi-final, Lylyk scored the winner and an insurance goal for a 4-2 win over Markham. Allison and MacDonnell had the other Whitby goals. Lylyk was named most valuable p layer. In the thrilling final encounter against South Ottawa, MacDon- neil scored in the first period to tie the gaine at 1-1, and the score remained until the second sud- den-death overtime period when Ottawa scored during a scram- bie.
