The hearing went ahead but only because it was too late for either the Town or Perez to cancel it, said Whitby planning director Bob Short. It was also held to give any interested party an opportunity to speak against the pro posai. No one did as the heaing lasted no longer than an hour. Perez and the Town agreed on the revised townhouse proposai. which both sides had admitted was superior to Perez's original proposai. The original plan called for 230 townhouses at the northeast corner of the two streets but negotiations between Perez and planning department cut the number of homes down to 227 and also made room for a com- munity centre. Councillors opposed the plan because many of the units had been pre-sold with very littie opportunity for Whitb residents to purchase any of th e =oes.
