Dooley, a former teacher at Port Perry I{igh School and current president of the Down Syndrome Association of Ontario, bas lived in Whitby 22 years. He says the problems in Whitby "b:asically bail down to two." Fie says there is "almost incomplete control of development in the town" and that spot zoning bas become rampant. "Development in this town is a disaster. there's no planning in PAT DOOLEY this tawn whatsoever, it's only reaction. That's why it's called spot zoning." Hie says the second problem is the "degree of secrecy in council," mentioning that agendas can't be obtained until the morning of the meeting. Dooley and wife Catherine have eight children. Gomille seeks Region seat FROM PAGE)1 a waste disposai problem, and I would like ta see the recycling program extended ta include more like fine paper," she said. I1 would likie ta see a greater openness in govemnment. A closed meeting in a democracy is unacceptable. "The agenda should always be published way ahead of time for people to, be able ta, makçe a comment on what is happening in the community. Democracy is notbing if the electorate are not informed." Gomille said if elected she will strive for more accessible regional government, maybe by witing a column regularly in a local paper on issues and events in regianal politics. She had thought of running as an independent candidate for the federal election, but the money involved defeated that idea. I would like ta have a chance ta do what is ight, ta contribute energy and freshness of vision that I still have as a first-timne candidate. "Leadership with vision is what I have ta contribute," Gomille said.
