Thornlea hast got the rating about 10 years ago. Thornlea has a total of 350 Hoîsteins, of which 125 are for dairy. The Robinsons, Who came from Thornhill in the 1970s, own 450 acres in Whitby and rent another 700 for their farmn operation. Roy said the summer drought had some adverse effect on their crops but that "Crops turned out better than we expected." He said grain yields are down 30 to 40 Per cent from normal while the second hay crop was "ipretty well a write-off."
