"Gerald bas been active in rnany things in the community and. gives his time and effort expecting nothing in return and does so without people or neigh- bors in the conimunity ever knowing his involvement," Brown wrote in ber nomination letter. Robinson has lived in Wh-itby GERALD ROBINSON for 31 years and last year retired from the Durham Regional Police in which he held the position of deputy chief. His police career started in 1956. Brown said that Robinson miakes time to visit neighibors, those who are sick, and helps bis children with home renovations - usually with his young grandson Gregory as his shadow. He has been heavily involved in community organizations and events. Robinson is past president of the Rotary Club and is a chef for the yearly pancake breakfast and for the "Rotoburgers;" a painter and repairer of Whitby's Santa Claus parade floats; past Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star Lodge in which he is stili active in the social committee; member and past Master of the Masonic Lodge (David T. Campbell Lodge); an eider at St. Marks Church; a past umpire of Whithy Minor Baseball; and past chauffeur for crippled children. "Gera,ýld is a very modest man and neyer wants to do anytbing for recognition," says Brown. "He does evei-ything. quietly and he does it because he truly loves people and loves Wihitby and wants to contribute to our town." Arson suspected in boat fire Arson is suspected as the cause of three small fires aboard the Prince Edward Island, the dereliet sbip that bas been moored at Whitby harbor for more than a year. Durham Regional Police say a dog on board the ship, bis food and three welding tanks were also thrown overboard. The dog swam to safety.
