Canada had defeated Australia 12-11 and England 13-12 and lost 16-11 to the. U.S., in games leading to the final. Jef McComb from the junior A box lacrosse Warriors, one of five attackers on the Canadian team, scored three goals in the win over Australia and had two. goals against England. McComb and fellow Warriors Rich Dyment of Whitby and Kevin Hayes of Ajax, each scored a goal in the first loss to the U.S. Also on the Canadlian teain from the Warriors was Dan McComb. 'We did well," s'aid Junior Field Lacrosse League convener Gord Paterson, who, from Scarborough, relayed resuits of the world championships to The Free Press. Paterson said the Canadian team fared well against the strong U.S. squad which includes top-calibre college and university players. Wbitby's major atom rep tearn maintained their winning streak with a* 3-0 win- over Oshawa Turul recently. A'uame waite-Annoh scored two goals after Louis Chekaluk opened the scoring. Gene Rainey and Shawn Neveu teamed on the mound and got plenty of offensive support as Whitby downed Trenton 20-4 on Saturday. The Oshawa side then received a bye into the tournament final because- of a default by the Wilfrid Laurier University Old Boys. In the final Vikings played a goed young Lindsay tearu. Oshawa won 9-0, but it was a hard-fought game, with several altercations- developing. The heat made everybvody's temper a little short. For the most part both teams stuck to rugby, and the Vikings were able to move the baIl more consistently than the Lindsay side. Oshawa received a try from Mfike Clayton. Ian Thomspon. added a convert and a penalty kick. In other -action on the weekend, Vikingà ' under-19 first teaxn played the Ajax Wanderers and came out on top 16-10. The local boys received tries from' Cam Brown and Dave Bolton. Scott Meyer had two singles while Chris Harris and Greg Rennie each scored two runs. On July 13, Fox and Harris pitched for Whitby in a 7-4 win over Ajax. Fulton poked three singles and drove in two runs, Meyer had.two bits and drove in two runs and Greg Dittman scored twice..
