I I WffTBY MMEE PRESS, WEDNESDAY, JULY 20, 1988, PAGE -19 He.alth fairfeatures seniors' b .A "Health Fair," featuring a variety -of health and beauty services of interest to seniors, will be held at the Whitby Seniors' Centre on Aug. 10 from 10:30 a.m. to3 pm This year. the theme of the health fair is "Live Healthy and Look Great, It's Neyer Too Late. " Realizing the role that looking good has in feeling good psycho- logically,' organizers of the event are setting up hair analysis and color analysis booths, to be attended by focal beauty and hair consultants. , 1Other beauty and related businesses have been contacted1 and organizers hope' to have several more "good looks" booths, Region to ýget rebate The Region of Durham will receive a rebate for dumping wvaste at the Metropolitan Toronto-owned Brock West dump site in Pickering. The rebate of $1.8 million for 1988 will be based on the number of tonnes of garbage regional municipalities will send to the dump. .But in 1989, the rebate will be based on population. During 1988, regional municipalities will pay $50 a tonne for dumping garbage but will receive a rebate of -$28.36 a tonne. But for 1989, figures are not available as to what the rebate. will be, and' that lias some councillors upset. "There may be no change in the basis of calculation, but 1 am not- sure of the ramifications," said Oshawa councillor John Aker, at the Region's joint works and finance committee meeting.- "Estimates at the Region seem to be criticized se severely. Even if you are out a dollar," replied Region finance- commissioner Jack Gartley. He did say, however, that overail the Region- would lose about $200,000 a year. However, two municipalities, Whitby and Scugog, would actually gain a. higlier rebate because their pépulations are expanding so quickly, according to works chairman Gerry Emm. Oshawa was identifled as one of the municipalities which woulçl receive Iess of a rebate. This prompted some Oshawa councillors te ask that the Region investigate balancing out the rebate among the municipalities. Regioen tender policy revised FROM PAGE i $150,000. The commissioner is then -te report to council. The recycling centre on Garrard Rd. was approved at a coet of $650,000. The final cost was $862,000. The recycling project's budget, including trucks for pickup and salaries, is $1.8 million. When construction began, site preparation was budgeted at- $71, 000. But because of a change in the location of the building, the requirement of a sprinkler systemn by the Whitby fire department, and problems *with water, the site preparation actually cost $252,000, or $180,000 more than expected, according to a works department report. At a meeting of the works and finance committees, councillors were aise informed that only two memnbers of regional council sit on the recycling board of directors. "When spending that kind of nioney we should be the majority on that board," said Uxbridge councillor Gerri-I.ynn O'Connor. REGULAR, At BEEF OR B.B.O.
