The Rebels Druin and Bugle Corps, comprised of boys and girls 12 to 21 years- of age, was formed in-Oshawa in 1977. They emerged as.Canadian novice, champions in 1978, quickly worked their way up to juior "'C" champions in 1979, and -were both provincial and national "C"' class champions in 1983. The corps advanced, to "A" class competition in 1984. The.hIdghlight of their 15-day àummer, tour *of 1985 camne in Madison, Wisconsin, at the international world champion- ships. -The corps finished first in the preliminaries in the "A60" class, - and second in the finals. The, Rebels claimed both circuit and provincial ýý. "A" class championsbips in 1986. The corps placed fourth in the,"ýA60" class in Madison in 1987, with their horn line, scoring the highest of al competitors. They were fourth in the "A"' class at the Canadian national chanipionships. The 'members practise once-a week from September throùigh December, twice a week frdm January to May, and three times per week from* then until completion of the summer tour, to perfect their music and intricate 'M and M' drills (marching and manoeuvres). Each of the linos - drum, horn and coélor guarde - rehearse separately and then together to achieve the polished performances viewed by* the public. Current membershiP extends froi , Mississauga through toPort Hope. .Thousands of people see them each year as they participate in parades, competitions and shows. Each Christmas season they march in 10 to 12 Santa Claus parades ranging .in size froin those of small towns th the prestigious and, nationally tel- evised Toronto parade.
