Free Press photo Warriors win one more The Whitby Warriors have improved their record to 11-5-1 in junior lacrosse play following a win and a loss last week. On Wednesday, June 29, Warriors lost to the premier team in the league, Peterborough Maulers, 12-7. Despite being down 10-1 at one point in the second period, Warriors outscored their opponents the rest of the way to make the game respectable. Kevin Hayes and Jeif McComb each had three goals for the Warriors. Hayes and McComb are now in Australia, along with Dan McComb and Rich Dyment, to play for Canada~s field lacrosse team in the world championships. Todd Wilson had the other goal for Whitby. On Thursday, Warriors travelled to Bay Area (Burlinton) where they defeated the Bengals 9-7. Warriors' next action is tonight, (Wednesday) at 8 p.m. when they play the Bengals at Iroquois Park beginning at 8 p.m. Atoms lose 2-1 in final The Whitby major atom soccer team reached the chainpionship final of the Peterborough Challenge Cup tournament before falling 2-1 to Newmarket. In preliminary rounds, the Whitby under-lO squad. had defeated Bramnpton 5-0 and Markhara 4-1 and lost to Diie 2-1,. Chekaluk and Wiaffe-annoh each scored twice against Brampton with Williams scoring the other. Williams scored three goals against Markham while Jeif Maclean had a single.
