Admira Nezirevic, Andrea Anfossi, Mark Cruxton and Lisa Townsend, local post secondary students, were hired under a federal SEED grant ta work as a curatorial assistant (exhibitions- /education>, curatarial assistant (permanent collection), gallery assistant, and marketing/graphic design assistant. Townsend, now studying at Humber College in tbe residential design prograni, said working at tbe gallery is an "unequalled educational experience, witb exposure ta different artists." One realm of art that interests ber is tbat of art hiistary. "It i ntrigues me bow powerful art was. In the past that was bow people communicated.", Nezirevic, studying fine art history at University of Toronto, has an objective ta get inta, gallery work. She bas bad art experience since bigh sehool. "When I started, modern art was n-y favorite, and I presently enjoy life drawing." Anfossi, a student of the fine arts program at Queen's Univer- sity, took the position because it is really important ta be exposed ta art. You find if you have a different job, you're away from it too long." Cruxton is in the grapbic design program at Durham College, going into bis third year. He bas worked at tbe gallery for tbree consecutive summers, as "experience was tbe main tbing." He feels "tbe gallery bas a lot, to offer to Durham Region, even Toronto. It always bas a lot of good shows." He hopes ta work in a gallery, museum, magazine or newspaper in the future. The students prepare cisplays, assist in cataloguing, insta-1l exhibitions, organize newsletter mailings, give public information, update permanent collection re- cords, prepare information bro- chures, 'organize children's pro- grams, film presentations, and help with preparation for art classes offered by Whitby Arts Inc. 401 resurfacing contract awarded .Ontario Transportation ivnms- ter Ed Fulton bas announced the award of a contract for re- surfacing on Hwy. 401 fromn Rougemount Rd. in Pickering ta Brock St. in Whitby. The resurfacing project in the eastbound lanes, is undertaken ta rehabilitate, the existing surface at various locations.
