This newly expanded facility offers an interesting course for the competitors, while the public can mingle with the racers in the paddock and have a good opportunity to photograph cars and drivers. The action at Shannonville begins on Friday, July 8. Racing continues through Saturday and resumes at noon on Sunday for the handicap and feature races. Again this year, an added feature on Sunday morning allows spectators to drive their own cars, in groups led by an experienced racer, round the new circuit. The popular attraction will allow the viewers to see the track from the same perspective as the race drivers. The annual Concours d'Elegance will take place at 10 a.m. on Sunday, at which time the public will have an opportunity to voté for the cars of their choice. A parade of all the Concours class winners occurs at 2 p.m. another fine phbtographic opportunity. Many of the cars in the Concours d'Elegance have been shown at similar events all over North America. This is a unique opportunity to see cars representing the major manufacturers, in one location. The winners will represent the highest standards of restoration, equal to any similar show in North America or Europe. For those who love nostalgia, don't forget to visit the flea market at the track. Here, enthusiasts will be able to pick up that sought after part, or even the makings of a new restoration project! The flea market has attracted many vendors to date, because of the unique opportunity it provides to seli vintage sports car parts to an enthusiastic gathering of car buffs. Saturday evening the racers and spectators will be entertained by a live jazz band, to preserve the vintage atmosphere. Faced vith the spectacle of rows of perfectly restored old racing and sports cars, it is helpful if the various classes are known. The oldest cars raced are known as "Pre-War" and include old MGs, Frazer Nash, Bugatti, Bentleys, etc. These cars are truly unique in design and concept, coming from an age when the designer of the car was more artist than engineer. Consequently, their shapes and mechanical designs are very individual, even weird! However, it is this type of car that is the, grandfather of today's Indy car or Le Mans winner, so take a good look. Next are the single seaters. This class is a popular one, as the cars which were designed in the 1950's and 60's not only look fast, they go fast! The most popular of these cars are called Formula Juniors. This was the class that started many racing greats such as Jackie Stewart, Jim Clark and Graham Hill on the road to fame. Essentially they use an engine from a production car, but highly tuned. Because of their light weight and size this makes for a very fast car. Ministry relocates new inter-city guide The Ontario Ministry of Transportation has released the new edition of the Ontario intercity transportation guide. A joint distribution by the ministry, Northern Development and Mines, and Tourism and Recreation, it is designed to provide information on public transportation available for Ontario travellers. "There have been a number of stylistic improvements made this year," commented Ed Fulton, Minister of Transportation. "Typeface and layout have been improved for easier reading, and service facilities have been added with telephone numbers for service schedules, plus food, parcel and disabled access. "This multi-colored edition is a valuable source of information on all modes of transportation," said Fulton. "Also, it can be useful to visitors." The guide is available to the tourist industry, tourist associations, municipalities and transportation carriers.
