Pat Dooley said at last week's public meeting for the application ]Don't be rnisigiAI on May l2th! Ift that area residents already find traffic "too heavy to handle' and are unable to get on the streets. "And that plaza is not fully open yet. When it does, it will be aheli of a schmozzle," Dooley told administrative committee. The application, by Camen Corp, 654860 Ontario Ltd.' and Great Northern Developments, is to allow an additional 1,100 square metres of retail and personal service floorspace and certain personal service and retail uses. Additional uses include a retail wholesale automobile parts store, a retail sporting goods centre, a recreational club, ban- quet or assembly hall, and a bank of financial institution or retail warehouse outlet. that limited retail and personal service uses are now permitted at Thickson Rd., north of Dundas, but not exceeding 500 sq. mnetres floorspace in each area. A representative for the devel- opers said the application only "broadens the uses" for the area, mentioning that more variety of retail wares would be offered, besides furniture. He* added that there are 400' parking spaces for the stores, "50' per cent more than required." Dooley said more housing in the Bluegrass area would also add to traffic. He said the Towni should' discourage expansion of develop- ment, arguing that, developments follow traffic patterns. Administrativr. committee chairman Gerry Emm replied that council tried to stop a gas bar but was unsuccessful. "We have taken a position and have lost at the 0MB," said Emm, rejecting Dooley's criticismn of council's manner of handling development in Whitby. Another resident commented "How many plazas db you want to put in that littie corner?" when referring to the application.
