Eventsheld for Nurses Weelk Several events have been planned by staff of' Whitby Psychiatric Hospital to celebrate Nurses Week May 9 to 13. In building 30, after opening ceremonies on Monday morning, May 9, Gail Donner, executive director of the Registered Nursing Association of Ontario, will discuss "Professionalisin in Nursing." She wil l be followed by Gail Ritterman, director of the complaints and discipline depart- ment of the College of Nurses of Ontario, who will speak on the role of the college in. nursing practice. Monday's activities will con- clude with the presentation of professional achievement awards and the presentation - of the nurses' slogan winner. On Tuesday, starting at 10 a.m., .also in building 30, Paxnela Hospital tour Khan, senior tutor at the University of Toronto, will talk about the "Concept of Caring in Nursing Practice." .On Wednesday, there will be a display at the Whitby MaIl. Ken Keyes, Parliamentary Assistant, Ministry of Health, will discuss "Power and Politics: Roles Nurges can Plan in Making Changes in the System," on Thursday, starting at 10 a.m., also in the building 30 audi- torium. The hospital will be open froin 1 - 4 p.m. for the community to visit and tour the facilities. There will be a variety of displays and work stations which follow the Canada Health Day theme of "H-ealth for Ail - Ail for Health." Displays will show the focus of prevention and promotion within the hospital setting and how Whitby General hospital develops programns to meet that focus. 'The hospital nowhas 65 acute care beds and 32 longtermn care beds. Approval has been given ta add 36 more longtermn care beds, and plans are underway to put them in place.
