Old barn will _b e reio cated An 80-year-old hip roof barn, one of the last of its kind in ths area, will soon be removed from a property beside Glen Hill Dr. in Whitby's east end to make room for commercial development. "We hate to se& it go,". says Errna Wood of the bain last used by husband Don in 1973 when hie ceased bis farin operation. But the barn will be reconstructed and .used by the new owners on a property near Newtonville. Apart from their own home and the original farinhouse behind it they now rent out to a family, the barn property is one of the last rernaining areas of their original 97.4-acre faim that occupied the southwest cor ner Of Thickson Rd. and Dundas St. E., stretching east to the hydro corridor and south to the railroad tracks. The Woods- sold their faim property to Fiîst City Developments in 1970. Toys R' Us, along, with the A&P store, were among the first deve- lopmnents to go in, later the plaza, Glen H-ili Dr., subdivisions and& more recently, the' 10-story Durhamn Christian Homes seniors apartments and the Durhamn non-profit housing subsidized apartment project.
