WHITBY FREE PRESS, WEDNESDAY, -JANUARY 13 198 8, PAGE 23 Store owerf is'to have signs remnove d A Whitby coffee shop .owner haq failed ln his attempts to, have "no stopping" signs removed from the street in front of his business. The region's works committee turnied down the request to have the no stopping restrictions lifted on Wentworth St. in Whitby's in- dustrial southend. George Lapoussis, owner of the Coffee Express, appeared before the works committee shortly after the-no stopping signs were erected last November, bearing a petition signed by transport truck drivers who ' frequented Mis business, leaving their rigs on Wentworth St. while stopping for coffee. Lapoussis pointed out that Wentworth was four lanes in front of his"place and trucks parked would not hold up traffic. At that time, staff was asked to prepare a report reviewing the situation. Theé finished ieport,. however, indicated traffic from General Motors runs on a con- tinuous basis over a 16-hour period along that particular stretch of Wentworth, with the heaviest volume being between 6a.m. and il p.m. Close to 6,000 trucks use the road which has been designated the route from the 401,and GM's south plant. The- report, also indicated up to 15,000 trucks are' expected to use Wentworth under GM's just-in-time prodl4ctlon., The report stated transports parking in the curb lane affects the capacity of the road and '"creates a potentiaily dangerous siftation."
