Nine reports, prepared by seven consultants, were presented by a four-man delegation at the last meeting of regional council on the subject of shipping dangerous goods by rail through the Durham area and on to York, Metro Toron- to, Peel and Halton regions. Harold Gilbrt, chairman of the Task Force on the Metro Toronto Area Transportation by Rail of Dangerous Goods, explained the task force had been set up to examine the flow of dangerous goods by rail through the Toronto Whitby indoor soccer SQUIRT DIVISION Pningle Creek IGA 6 Free Press 4 Adam P'arr (6) Mathew Whelan (4) Cougars.. 1 The Donut Press 3 Gary Murtagh Garath Dowse, Joseph Hanna Stephan Nicota Tigers 3 Ian Barron Motors 4 Paul Caley Marcus Payne (4) Dylan Granville Michael Schleifrer ATOM DIVISION NRS Realty i Owasco 8 Shawn Plskrneyer Cliff oppolino Leigh Willems (2) Gordon Venner Patrick Roy Aaron Cross John Houston (2) Big Donuts Alex Payne 1 DeVille Produce 8 Ryan Stimming (3) Paul Lambert Michael Vanderbruggen (2) N. He said the task force would come up with its own recommendations only after considering opinions on the reports from the genheral public and politicians in the various regions affected. Neil Irwin of IBI Group told council his consulting firm had identified six possible corridors for CP and CN traffic, but those favored were the existing route, the Parkway Belt, and the Northern Corridor. In the existing route, CP runs through the centre of Peel and Halton, midtown Toronto and south Durham«. The Parkway Belt would see CN and CP traffic going north of Mississauga and Metro, bypass Milton and Thornhill and swing south where they would still go through south Durham. The Northern Corridor would take trains well north of populated areas in Halton, Peel, York and Durham with a spur line swinging southeast of Bowmanville. Although this proposal would divert rail traffic away fromn populated areas, it would cost up to $1.5 billion in capital costs to construct and would have a significant impact on wildlife and vegetation, as well as gobbling up a fair amount of far- mland.
