Guest speaker for the evening was Karen McAndless, a student at Knox College. Karen spent this past summer at Camp Christopher in Saskatchewan and shared with us some of her experiences there. The junior choir favored us with some lovely numbers. Moyra Grif- fin sang, accompanied on her guitar, "Bridge Over Troubled Water." Barbara Porter led in a 0 Ma:bel LE rousing singsong, which was en- joyed by ail. To conclude the evening, alI enjoyed a social hour. Holy communion was celebrated at Burns Church. Lindsay Death and Ray Ingleton read the scripture portions, with the senior choir singing "O my Savior,' lifted from the earth." Rev.'McEntyre's ser- mon was.titled "God's Healing in a Fractured World. " Burns Church anniversary ser- vices are being held on Sunday, Oct. 18 at il a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Rev. Robert Spencer from Crieff Hilîs is guest speaker. Gretel Cameron will be guest soloîst in the morning. In the evening the Jubilee Singers from Whitby will' minister to us in song. The house, part of Maplegrove Farm, remained in the Briggs family for 151 years and remains relatively untouched by moder- nization. Architectural (1) 1 he Briggs House is a well preserved-and intact example of a mid-century amalgam of Greek Revival and Regency styles, typical of the vernacular idiom. (2) The main. north facade doorway and aIl the north and Soutri block windows retain their original glass panes and intact wood elements. (3) The late century treillage porch is a good example of the prefabrîcated production during the 11890's (4) The integral carrnage house with its double doors is an interesting feature of the original design (5) The newel caged staîrcase, window and door cas ings, doors on the ground and second f loors, and baseboard mouldings throughout the interior of the north block display exceptional craftmanship in fabrication and "graining' of the simulated wood finish.
