Garland hosted the luncheon last Friday attended by local. regional and provincial dignitaries. "*We are now serving the whole Durham Region and meeting the needs,- said Garland, as he talked about the college's satellite facilities in Ajax, Port Hope and Uxbridge. But Garland also used hi., speech to draw attention tb the colege's facilities which he believes could play host to some Olympie events. A push for touriis.m With the unveiling of abright new logo and what appears to be a widely-based declaration of sup- port, Durham Region's new -and organizers hope, improved -tourist association was created last week to promote the area tourism industry. "We can make something hap- pen,- David Gould, chairman of the tourism development steering committee, told about- 100 who at- tended the Oct. 8 meeting at the Holiday Inn in Oshawa. "Or else we can corne back in five years and say "What happened?" unless we get together and do so something. Edwards was commenting on a recommendation from the Town's public works department that the Town enter into an agreement with *Canada Post for the installation and maintenance of community mailboxes. The recommendation was accep- ted by councillors Ross Batten and Joe Drumm. Edwards voted again- st the recommendation. "This Town is not acting in the best interest of its citizens if we support this," said. Edwards, claiming Whitby should have at- tempted to have every commnunity in Canada object to the boxes.
