HOT STUFF ~HOTSTUFF'F Whitby councillors are satisfied with the street nameès proposed in the Monarch subdivision, after learning that the names do have historical significaiice. But a recommendation was ap- proved to change the name of a por- tion of D'Hillier Street going through the subdivision to McQuay BIvd. The extension of McQuay Blvd. through'the subdivision will also be named McQuay. Mark Tutton, representative the developers of the 157-unit sub- division to be located at the no- west corner of D'Hillier and un- das St. W ., objected to the name change for D'Hillier at an ad- ministrative committee meeting* last week. He said the developers, in preparing plans and advertising for the subdivision, had assumed that D'Hillier would be the street narne. He said it was "a bit onerous" to now change the name. Councillor Joe Bugelli replied that the naming* issue had only recently corne before committee. Tutton said D'Hillier was th "6accustomned" name and should not.change. Whitby council members had two weekcs ago asked that the proposed names for the subdivision be in- vestigated. Councillors wanted more names of Peter Ferry award winners used in new subdivisions. However, committee members learned last week that the Monarch .'streets will be named after horses that ran in the 1870 Queen's Plate race on the same property. Names are Moonstone Dr., Allayden Dr., Kennett Dr., New Dominion Ct., Rothean Dr. and Roan Dr. Names of other horses in that 1870 race will also be used in the next phases of the subdivision. Meanwhile,. Nettles Ct. answers a request from the Nettles family residing on D'Hillier, while another street to be registered in the next phase of the subdivision will be called Lofthouse, after a Peter Ferry award winner. Planning department also suggested that the name D'Hillier be preserved and used for either of two streets in future development.
