I I Break-iMs believed connected Durham Regional Police are in- vestigating a break-in at a restaurant in Pickering Village and two break-ins at two Whitby restaurants which they believe are connected Police say a cleaning woman heard glass break while shewas working at Wally's Restaurant in Pickering Village early Tuesday morning. She was confronted by two males, one carrying a hammer. They told her they were OPP officers. She then fled the premises and called police. A short time later break-ins were reported at the Coach House tavern on Dundas St. W. and Stairways on Green St. in Whitby. Police says cash was stolen from each of the Whitby restaurants. Enrolment changes at O'Connor Denis O'Connor Catholic high school in Ajax has fewer students this year, a new experience for the administration at DO'C who have had high enrolment since the school opened in 1984. Enrolment is down about 10() students from last year, allowing the removal of four portables to bring the total down to 12. The reason behind the decrease is the opening of St. Mary's High School in Pickering, scheduled to open this September. However, this date has been pushed forward one year. In the meantime Gr. 9 and 10 students who were to be attending St. Mary's this year are being bused to Holy Cross in Oshawa. Tom Fitzsimmons, principal at DO'C for the past two years, was right on the mark with his predic- tion of 1987 enrolment. Fitzsim- mons was prepared for 1,040 students and he received 1,043. About 350 of those students are bused from Whitby. Stripparlor license is approved... FROM PAGE 1 did,,calling it "a half a cake." "The bylaw is not half a cake," responded Attersley. Bugelli also criticized the $50 license fee, which he said would escalate the "worth of an establishment. "Fifty dollars is ridiculously low and comes nowhere close to collec- ting the Town's money back," argued Bugelli. He said he was more concerned with the value the license would put on the two existing parlors. "Once we have approved this we have highlighted those two locations," argued Bugelli. Lamps stolen at Rousseau's Four lamps and a framed print valued at $1,650 were stolen from Rousseau Heritage House at 216 Mary St. E. sometime on the weekend. Durham Regional Police say a rear window was removed to gain access. Coming events COMPUTER CLUB The Commodor. McKay also told council that should an establishment be sold, the license is not transferable. The new owners would have to apply to the Town for the license. Should the Town receive two or more applications after a parlor has been sold, McKay said staff would go to council for direction. Another clause in the license provides that strippers not be visible from the exterior of the parlor. Both existing parlors, the Royal Hotel and the Spru e Villa, had representatives at the meeting. John Ringer, solicitor for the Spruce, hinted the advertising restriction may not be "fair and reasonable and defenceable in law. "It is not my client's intention to challenge the license," he told council. Ted Mikos, co-owner of the Royal, would not comment on the license, saying he had to study it. Council eventually gave unanimous approval to the license.
