Town.wants streets named after Peter Perry What's in a name? To Whitby council, plenty. On Monday night, council gave approval to phase one of a sub- division at the northwest corner of D'Hillier St. and Dundas St. W. but have asked the street names be in- vestigated. Some of the names for streets in the 157-unit subdivision are Moon- stone Dr. and Rothean Crt. But council wants - to know why the str eets have not been named after former Peter Perry winners. "Where are thesè names coming from?" asked councillor Gerry Emm. He was informed by planning director Bob Short that Town staff attempt to name streets after Peter Perry winners. "'That is not goo enough. 1 don't think an effort is being made," responded Emm, who asked that approval of the names be withheld for two weeks. giving staff time to attempt to rename the streets. " IThose names are a damn in- suit,"t. said councillor Joe Drumm. Councillor Marcel Brunelle also asked staff to investigate renaming D'Hillier St. McQuay Blvd. and renaming one of the subdivision streets D'Hillier. Brunelle- said the move would make sense since D'Hillier will- be aligned to intersect with McQuaýr Blvd. in the Otter Creek sub- division. Council was unanimous in agreeing with the two suggestions. The application filed by Monarch Construction Ltd., is only the first phase of a subdivision which-will eventually contain 325 dwellings. Staff is to report back in two weeks on the name changes. Councillor Joe Bugelli asked an agent for the developer, Tysonville Construction Ltd., how "construc- tive, criticism" could be -given on the plan when there were no details given of the houses to be erected. The plan proposed 21 lots having a mfnirnum lot frontage of 45 feet and. 19 lots with minimum 50-ft. frontage. The agent said that because of lot size, the homes wouldn't be as large as those in the surrounding neighborhood but also wouldn't be "at the low ýend of the scale either." Councillor Bugelli, noting that developers usually indicate the type of houses and the type of market they seek, asked that more detafls be given at the futurepublic meeting.. Hospital.
