FLEA MARKET Whitby General Hospital will hold the second annual giant flea market, Saturday, Sept. 12, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Rain date - Sept. 19, 1987) in the parking lot of the hospital. Construction of the Whitby GO station has begun after GO Transit last week awarded the $8,782,000 contract to low bidder Vanbots Construction Corp. Construction of the 1,500 sq. ft. station building and site work represents $5.2 million of the con- tract. The remainder includes upgrading of the existing Pickering station. The Whitby building will be given a Victorian facade to complement the Town's architecture. Parking will increase to 1,053 spaces from 502 while capacity for 500 future spaces will be provided. The extension has brought an in- flux of $150 million into the provin- ce, according to Lou Parsons, chairman of GO Transit. The double decker trains are being built in Thunder Bay and work on the extension has created $750,000 man days of worik. The contractor is Vanbots Con- struction Corp. of Don Mills. Renovations to the Pickering GO station at a cost of $3.5 million have also begun by Vanbots.
