On Tuesday Whitby played a closely fought game against Oshawa Turul and two first haf goals by Shane Terry were the dif- ference between the teams at the outset. Mark Burns earned the shutout. Wednesday's game against Oshawa Italia was more one-sided as Italia could only field nine players. Goals by Jonathan Allen, Jeff MacLean, Shane Terry, Mark Burns, Andrew David and Mike Tucker gave Whitby a 6-0 victory. The shutout was shared by Jonathan Allen and Daniel Holmes. Redmen in round-robin after undefeated season Brooklin Redmen completed their 20-game Ontario Lacrosse Association (OLA) major-senior league regular season undefeated, albeit by the skin of their teeth. During last Wednesday's match up between the home Brooklin team and Peterborough Lakers, Redmen got their first scare of the season. Lakers took control from the opening whistle and carried the play for the following 57 minutes. Leading Brooklin 4-1 after the first period and 5-4 heading for the final frame, spectators at Luther Vipond Memorial Arena were obviously in a state of shock as the final minutes of the game ticked off. With three minutes left in the game, Brooklin was actually losing by a 9-6 margin. The old saying, you can't hold a good man, or in this case team, down, rang true to form as Redmen popped in four unanswered goals to rally to a narrow 10-9 victory. It was obvious watching Brooklin coach Peter Vipond behind the ben- ch that he was anything but happy with his squad's performance. And you could see the sigh of relief as the final and winning goal was pop- ped into the nets. Gil Nieuwendyk was tne manl o the hour for the third straight game, picking up six points on two goals and four assists for the night. Most of the goals actually came in pairs with Andy Peronni, Dale Kernoham and Derek Keenan each scoring two. Ken Colley and Jim Merideth rounded out the scoring with singles. Lakers played their hearts out with Andy Shaughnessy and Dave Succamore each netting a pair of goals, Dave Evans, Wayne Batley, Joe Masterson, Jim Vilneff and Frank Kylie hitting for singles. Although defeated, Peterborough left a message, loud an :i clear. They are not to be counted out of the round-robin series in which they are participating with the Redmen and Fergus Thistles.. The series began last Friday. Brooklin gets into action on Thur- sday travelling to Peterborough, followed by a game withh Fergus in Brooklin on Sunday. Next week Redmen travel to Fergus on Tuesday and entertain Lakers at Luther Vipond Arena on Thursday.
