Durham golfers can. putt to help charity Durham golfers have five more days to "putt" their clubs to use for those who can't. The annual AI Balding's Golf Week for Timmy, supported by the Durham Regional Police Association, began May 16 at cour- ses throughout Durham Region. The event runs until may 25. Last year, the charity event raised $4,917 in Durham Region. Dale Allan, president of the Durham Police Association said at a recent press conference at Thun- derbird Golf Course, that the association expects better results this year. Last year, four days were washed out due to rain. The event is a fundraiser for Easter Seals, at 65, the oldest children's charity in Ontario. Participation is as easy as playing a round of golf. When you begin your round at any one of the courses par- ticipating, simply purchase .a Timmy/Tammy score card for $10. Some courses have eliminated the green fees during the event while others have reduced the cost. For clubs with 25 or more par- ticipants, a chance to enter a tour- nament is being offered. Based on a special handicap system approved by the Canadian Professional Golfers Association, low scorers will be invited to attend a tournament of champions at Hun- tington Golf and Country Club, July 22.
