Town requests funds ~'orrepair of sewers The Town of Whitby will " rap on the door" of the province for finan- cial assistance to pay for Town storm sewer repairs. Council has approved asking the Ministry of Transportation and Communication for $160,000 under the province's Ontario Municipal Improvement Fund (OMIF). While the OMIF is mainly for road and bridge improvements, the Town has been informed that storm sewer repairs would be classified as road improvement. Last August and September a number of homes in town were flodded following heavy rainfail. A study commissioned after the flooding estimated it will cost $1 million to repair the storm sewers. During 1987 budget discussions, council approved a three-year program to repair the system. It is to start this year at a cost of $320;' 000, with the province expec- ted to pay haif the cost. The Arthur St. sewer would eliminate two existing sewers across the 401 Highway and instead provide diversion to the' east.
