It started off with about 1,800 square feet of warehouse and showroom space. Today, the com- pany has been expanded and in ad- dition to fireplaces, offers a full selection of woodstoves, prefabricated chimneys, glass doors, chimney brushes and all related accessories. Fireplaces have always been popular and are now made more ef- ficient using glass doors, return hot air duct and outside combustion air. The most popular type of fireplace is the "factory built" zero clearance. Fireplace Plus specializes in Heatilator brand fireplaces. Heatilator pioneered the heat circulating concept back in 1926. Controlled combustion products were a great improvement in ef- ficiency and airtight wood stoves are capable of reducing home heating costs by as much as 50 to 75 percent. Not only is this new breed of woodstove more efficient, but also smart in appearance offering glass doors and gold, brass or nickel trim as well as built-in fans. The company is now located in the new premises at 300 Beech St. West after movmg from a Brock St. N. location. One of the longtime em- ployee's and friend is Supervisor Andy Ootjers. Jim has five sons and one daughter, four whom decided to en- ter the business. Tom having a B.A. in Urban Studies, at the University of Western Ontario, Doug a jour- neyman electrician, Gary, a jour- neyman electrician, Peter, having worked with Toronto Hydro was the last to join the company, daughter MaryJo is one of the secretaries. Jim's fifth son Greg, is in his fourtlà year in politicial science and languages at Carlton University in Ottawa.
