Meeting, expected on flood report A public information meeting is expected to be held in Whitby for residents to learn more about the Durham Region report on last summer's flooding.. Works committee for the region recently agreed to hold meetings if requested by Municipalities. Whitby councillor Gerry Emm, who chairs the committee, says a meeting will likely be held in Whit- by. About 200 homeowners here had their basements flooded in the Aug. 27 rainstorm.* "The sooner, the better, " he said. The final report was recently completed by Simcoe Engineering, but was released after the region's insurers had sent letters to somne residents saying the. region wQuld not be liable for claims. Emm says more than 160 dlaims for damage have been made. The Simcoe study dealt with flooding and the region's sanitary sewer system. Among input for the report was a study on Whitby's storm sewer system. Emm said meetings wil ikely take place in al- of Durham's lakeshore municipalities. He said the study will be explained at meetings which will also be atten- ded by insurance representatives.
