Residents learned that the building will be about 20 feet from the road pavement on Cen- tre and Dundas Sts., or about lilfeet from the sidewalks. .Paul Rycrof t of the Town planning department said the four-storey building, by C.M.D. In- corporated, was sited with a setback to ailow for future widening of Dundas St., now a 66 feet in width as a road allowance. He added that the set- back is "probabiy the same as other buildings in the same category. " "lIt hasn't got suf- ficient setback, " argued one man. "I do not think enough consideration is being given to this." Bruneile said no set- back at ail was requi.red on the site. "No changes can lie made' t this timne," lie said. He explained that no public "meeting was required on the ap- plication because no zone change was necessary. "Why was the procedure rushed through?" asked Rod' Angevaare. Drumm was the only councillor to vote against the proposai at the council meeting, presided by acting mayor Gerry Emm in the absence of Mayor Bob. But Brunelle denied that Drumm had made such a statement. Bruneil also noted that proposais have been previously approved in a similar process. "It was ail in order," said the administrative chairman. "lBy directly going to council, it did not cir- cumvent the system." He said the oniy dif- ference in procedure is that ail councillors saw the proposai at once rather than three at the administrative commit- tee level. He also questioned the accuracy of a composite rendering of the clinic in the Dec. 3 edition of the Whitby Free Press. The drawing was referred to by some residents at last week's meeting. Bruneile said theý newspaper "gave a rather severe picture of the situation."
