Darrin Lee provided the big goals in the 4-3 championship win over Pickering. Pickering was leading 3-2 when Lee tied the game mid- way through the third period. Two minutes later, he beat a defender and manoeuvered around another before 'firing the winner. Whitby bantam goaltender Bryce Perey was outstanding in the tournament. Whitby played to a scoreless tie with Toronto East En- ders in a fast, well- played game to open the tournament on Friday. Forward Mike Fulton scored a goal In an im- pressive performance against Aurora.' "Of fensively and defensively, he was a 'real standout," said Kaleta of Fulton. Bobby Willets, Paul Hamilton and Darrin Lee had the other Whitby goals against Aurora. Dean Mizen scored a goal and was a dominant figure, along with Percy, in the win over Owen Sound. Free Press photo Chris Campbell laims silver medal in Pacifie judo event A 14-year-old member of a Whitby judo club brought home a silver medal from the Pacific International judo championships held near Vancouver, B.C. over the weekend., Chris Campbell,,lost by one point, the only point in the entire bout, to an Alberta fighter. It was Campbell's only loss in eight bouts, He won a bout with a British Columbia entry to take the silver medal. "I was satisfied to be second, out of a 30-man pool," said Campbell. He was selected to represent Ontario in the under-50 kg division for juveniles (14 to 16) after a second-place finish in CHRIS CAMPBELL the Canadian Open judo championships held recently in Toronto. He was the only juvenile member from Ontario to attend the Pacifie championships. Judo' Ontario paid his travel and accom- modation costs., Campbell first took up judo at the YMCA in 1978. In 1980, he became a student of Dan Gribben at the Kiitchi Sai Judo Club. Cam- pbell is a member of both clubs, and trains four times a week. Gribben's sister, Sue, captured the North American and British Open judo champion- ships in the 1970's. Other Kiitchi Sai mem- bers also take part in tournaments' «'We've travelled al over the continent," says Dan Gribben, a 21- year veteran of the sport, who operates the 72-member club at ,Henry St. High School and Robert Thornton Public School. Forty-three of the club members are coni- petitors.. Steve Wakefield recently took first in the under-70 kg. category for juveniles in a Windsor tournament. Maria Kristanas was champion in the under- 20 kg. category and Nicole Dusome, third. Jeff Dusome was third in his weight class in the green to brown belt. category. Oshawa's Brian Sud- dard rink went to the semi-final and was defeated by Sun Life champion .Rick Bachand. The Suddard rink earned $1,500. The Bachand rink, made up of Rich Moffat, Duncan Jamieson and Dave Collyer defeated Montreal's Don. Aitken in the final. The Bachand rink received $7,000 for their efforts and the Aitken rink d * .1 - t '0 0.t ., received $4000. In the second event the Steve Thomas rink from the Lambton Curling Club earned $1,000 as they defeated the Dennis Marchand rink of Quebec City. The third event saw the Kevin Brevik rinlc of Chatham overtake Ian M aq.d of T.ronto. Dale Mackenzie of Royals Curling Club in Toronto earned $700 as his rink defeatcd the rink of John Kawaja, a former inember of Ed Werenick's 1983 world champion rink.
