Winners of the first Vandal posters program were presented their awards by- Whitby Mayor Bob Attersley and Chairnian of the Parks, and Recreation Ross Batten. First price of $100 went to Stephanie Riberio, a grade seven student at St. Paul's school, second prize of $50 was presen- ted to Grant Cole and Bobby Philips of Meadowrest Public School and third prize of $25 was presented to Noreen Grocott, Fourili place in the poster coni- petition went to Carolyn h-owarth of West Lynde, fifth place to Cathy Gallello 0f. St. Paul's and sixth place to Mark Edwardson of St. John's. The colouring portion of the contest for grade three students saw first place presented to An- drea Kirk-of Dr. Robert Thornton, second to An- drea Ketelaara of St. John's and third to Jen- nie Morine of West Lyn- de. In the grade four colouring comTpetition presentations for first place where given to Jensena Campbell of Col. J.E. Farewell,! second to Lara Baille, F.M. Heard and third to Kevin 13elgrave from St. John's. Grade five students were aiso presented with their awards with first placed presented to Debbie Batten, Meadowcrest School, second to Scott Paton fromn West Lynde and third to Lona Green of R.A. Sennett. Mayor Bob Attersley thanlced ail those who participated in the van- dal buster program and said that he is happy students wlll grow up and keep the idea of fighting vandalism in their minds, Councillor Tom Ed- wards also thanked the Downtown Business Improvement Area for providing the money for the poster prizes. Also presented with awards Monday nlght were two town em- ployees. Debbie Wilcox, an ac- counting clerk, was SÉË ]PC. ià Barn fire kills 300 pigs A barn fire west of Ashburn caused $85,000 damnage and the death of 300 pigs during the weekend. A Durhami Regional police spokesmnan said tire units from Whitby and Port Perry were called.in.to.c.ntrol.th fire which destroyed the barn.
