Balding, a goifer on the U.S. seniors P.G.A. tour, started the golf week il years ago and every year the nuznber of courses and golfers involved in the event continues to grow. To "tee off" the week, the Durham Regionai Police Association, Co- sponsor of the event in Durham with Carling O'Keefe Breweries, held a press conference at the Thunderbird Golf Course last week. "This wili be the tenth year Durham Region will be involved and this year aimost ail the golf courses in the Region wiil be participating," said president of the Police Association, Dale Allen. To participate, goifers pick the course of their choice and pay $10 for a Timmy score card, plus green fees if applicable. A special handicap for- mula has been devised and approved by the Canadian Professional Golfers Association, to, determine the winners during the week. The winners will then be in- vited to play in the Tournament of Cham- pions held at Huntington Golf Club on July 15. Carling O'Keefe will pay ail expenses for the day. "The handicap system, has been set up so that even the worst golfer can make it to the tournament," said chairman of this years golf week, constable Mike Marks. This is the second year Marks has been chairman of the event, and he said last year goifers and golf courses in Durham Region raised $5,200 for Easter Seals and, provincially, $65,000 was raised. He said that the golf courses in Durham were very enthusiastic about supporting- the event this year. Also attending the press conference were last year's Tammy, Cora Malischewski and this year's Timmy, Biily Chambers. They both thanked the Police Association and Carling O'Keefe for their in voivement in the gol;' week. Constable Marks pointed out that for a player to be eligible to attend the tournanient at Huntington, the golf courses he or she played on must have at least ten golfers buy.Timmy cards. Courses that have already confirmed their involvement in this year's tourney are: Ayren Links, Golf and Country Club, Peb- blestone, Summnerlea Golf Course and Fox- bridge. These four golf courses will be selling theTIlmmy cards during the whole week, and have agreed to wave the green fees. Other courses par- ticipat ing are Bowman- ville on May 22 (no green fees), Oshawa Golf Club (no dates), Country Lanes (no dates), Thunderbird on May 21 (haif-price green fees), Whitevale (this is a private club which will participate through it's members), Seaton on May 20, Cherry Downs (no dates yet), Pineridge on May 21, 22 and 23 (no green fees), Glen Cedars (no dates yet) and Win- chester (no dates yet).
