APRIL 30,1986 PAGE 17 FROM PG. 11 Fair association wants town lease But he would like to see the association enter into a lease with the town fd*r the use of the park, so the association could improve the fair with the construction of somne buildings. The association currently pays the Town of Whitby $1,500 for the use of the park during the fair. The Monteith report bas made a number of recommendations to the town addressing the association's concerns. The report suggests that Whitby begin discussions with ad- jacent landowners regarding the acquisition of property adjoining the park to the east and south. These land purchases would alleviate the parking problenis and would meet the demand for additional recreational facilities at the park. It was suggested that ap- proximately 15 acres would be required to meet the needs for recreational facilities in the future. On the expanded park site, an outdoor swim- ming pool, a softball diamond and two soccer pitches (one regulation and one mini field) should be built, says the report. T4e report also agrees with the association and recommends the Town of Whitby enter into a long term lease agreement with the Brooklin Spring Fair Association. The agreement would ad- dress the respon- sibilities of each party and ensure that tbe association assumed responsibility for damage to town proper- ty durlng the fair week. The town is currently studying a proposai to enter into a long-terni lease with the association. The lease would allow the association to request grants frorn the Federal Agriculture Depar- tment.
