JAYCEE'S SPRING CARNI VAL Considering the weather we've had this past week, it's hard to believe spring has sprung, but it's time for the Whitby Jaycee's Annual Spring Carnivai. The spring carnival, (april 17-27) on Thickson Rd. S. (A & P parking lot) is the Whit- by Jaycee's major means of financial sup- port. This is an excellent opportunity ta have fun, while supporting an organization dedicated ta cornmunity develop- ment. The Jaycees present the Whitby Santa Claus Parade, the annual Soap Box Derby, AU Can- didates Nights for federal and provincial elections, and this year, PUR flflhJ?~ drew some attention with their Mayor's roast. The Jaycee creed en- courages active in- volvemnent in com- munity development, and the Jaycees follow that lead with projects such as, chairing this springs controversial postal forum, the DUTI, (Stop Driving Under the Influence) program, and active support of causes such as M.S., and the Canadian Can- cer Society. CAT SHOW The Motor City Cnt Club wilI present their 13th and l4th champion- ship cnt shows Saturday and Sunday, April 26 and 27 In the Ontario Room of the Ajax Corn- munxty Centre. As many as 200 exhibitors are expected from Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes and there will be four judging rings each day for kittens, purebreed cats, recognized breecis and household pet cats. The weekend shows will be open to the public fromn 9 a.m. tili 5 p.m. and admission fees are $2.50 for adults, $1.25 for seniors and children un- der 12 with a special family admission fee of $5. 0 GS MEETING The Whitby-Oshawa branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society will hold its next meeting on Saturday, May 3. The meeting will in- clude a tour of the Scugog Island Museum, lunch and a visit to the Port Perry Library. Tickets for the event must be purchased before April 18 and are available from Steve Wood, 668-1362. 50'S AND 60'S DANC E The Durham chapter of the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will be staging the cbap- ter's fourth annual 50's and 60's dance Saturday May 24 at the Iroquois Arena. Don Daynard and Craig Smith of CK- FM's "Lookin Back" will be the masters of ceremomies for the event and Don Baker of DMB Sound wil be providing the sound system. Tickets for the dance are expected ta go quickly and will go on sale Saturday, April 19 between 9 and 12 a.m. at Iroquois Arena. Tickets are $12.50 per person and there is a limit of 10 single tickets per customer. All proceeda from the event wil go to Cystic Fibrosis research in Canada. WHITBY LITTLE THEATRE Beginning May i the Whitby Little Theatre wil be presenting Come Back to the Five and Dime Jimmy Dean Jimmy Dean. Ad- mission will be $5 and $6 and tickets are available at Middleton's Stationery, 113 Dundas St. W. Curtain time is 8 p.m. and the play will run May 1, 2, 3, 8, 9 and 10. CHURCH PARADE on Sunday, May 4, the Whitby District Scouts and Girl Guides will hold a church parade beginning at Henry Buildaîl on Brock St. N. at 1:30. The youngsters will then march south to Centennial Park where a 20 minute service is planned. At a general meeting of Whitby Liberals April 9 at the Whitby Public Library, the member- ship of the Provincial Whitby , Liberal Association elected its new executive for 1986. Valerie Hundert was elected president, Robin Scott vice-president, Josie Laarakkers was elected secretary and Trudy Ruest treasurer. This year's directors will be Margaret Bland, Brian Evans, Karl Fila, Robin Hepburn, Lloyd White and Velvet Wood.
