JAYCEE'S SPRING CARNIVAL Considering the weather we've had this past week, it's hard to believe spring has sprung, but it's time for the Whitby Jaycee's Annual Spring Carnival. The spring carnival, (april 17-27) on Thickson Rd. S. (A & P parking lot) is the Whit- by Jaycee's major means of financial sup- port. This is an excellent opportunity to have fun, while supporting an organization dedicated to community develop- ment. The Jaycees present the Whitby Santa Claus Parade, the annual Soap Box Derby, All Can- didates Nights for federal and provincial elections, and this year, drew some attention with their Mayor's roast. The Jaycee creed en- courages active in- volvement in com- munity development, and the Jaycees follow that lead with projects such as, chairing this springs controversial postal forum, the DUTI, (Stop Driving Under the Influence) program, and active support of causes such as M.S., and the Canadian Can- cer Society. VETERANS INFO SESSION All veterans or mem- bers of their family in- terested in obtaining in- formation about pen- sions, allowances or medical assistance available to them can do so by attending the special information sessions held the fourth Tuesday of every month at Branch 112, Royal Canadian Legion Hall in Whitby. A representative of the Department of Veterans Affairs will be on hand between the hours of 10 and 12 a.m. to answer all your questions. The next session will be held Tuesday, April22. CHURCH PARADE On Sunday, May 4, the Whitby District Scouts and Girl Guides will hold a church parade beginning at Henry Buildall on Brock St. N. at 1:30. The youngsters will then march south to Centennial Park where a 20 minute service is planned. At a general meeting of Whitby Liberals April 9 at the Whitby Public Library, the member- ship of the Provincial Whitby Liberal Association elected its new executive for 1986. Valerie Hundert was elected president, Robin Scott vice-president, Josie Laarakkers was elected secretary and Trudy Ruest treasurer. This year's directors will be Margaret Bland, Brian Evans, Karl Filo, Robin Hepburn, Lloyd White and Velvet Wood. Among the subjects discussed by the mem- bership at the meeting were general policy formation, riding re- distribution and fun- ding. HISTORICAL MEETING At the next general meeting of the Whitby Historical Society, the new curator of the Whitby Museum, Dr. Deseree Rowley will be presented to the mem- bership and interested members of the public. The meeting, scheduled for April 22 at 8 p.m. in the auditorium of Fairview Lodge, will feature Dr. Rowley and her ideas and plans for the museum's upcoming season which begins next month. FLEA MARKET The Whitby Seniors' Activity Centre, 801 Brock St. S., will be holding a Flea Market on Saturday, April 26 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Plants, home baking, books, hardware, white elephant and nearly new items will be featured. MAO TO MOZART "From Mao to Mozart", an Academy Award Winner and the most highly acclaimed feature movie on China in recent years stars world famous American violinist Isaac Stern. CYSTIC FIBROSIS MEETING The next meeting of the Durham chapter of the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will be Monday, April 21 in Room 106 at Henry Street High School beginning at 8 p.m. Information is available to local families and anyone in- terested in the disease.
