WIITBY FREE PRESS, WEDNESDAY. APRIL 9, 1986 PAGE 27 Anderson, Henry Street, Denis O'Connor HJIGH'SCHOOL NEWS WEEK r By EVELYN WIELINGA Anderson Colleglate This 1985-86 school year la Anderson's 25th anniversary. As part of this celebration, we'll take a look at Ander- son's history through one of the best resour- ces: the sehool newspaper. The Sehool Spirit i5 the bi-weekly newspaper at Anderson tbat should be read by ail who are looking for school reports, in- teresting articles, car- toons, and a great tiniel The School Spirit is far from being the first paper available at An- derson. In Anderson records we have a few Issues of the paper The Tattier. SThe issues we have ýare from 1970 to 1971. Although this paper bas corne and gone, it bas left behind a fantastic collection of editorials, poerns, school ads, "Dear Ralph", "Dear Abbey of Anderson", letters to the editor and more. In one edition there was an article about a girl who was given the student of the month award because she' managed to lock herseif in the bathroom. 'Another cute littIe saying I found la as .,,he Generation Gap is when your parents won't watch "World- beat"I because they think it's Rock 'n Rol music. Little sayings like this, greatly add to a paper. The School Lunch Pale wasn't another naine for the cafeteria but a paper that accor- ding to what was kept in our records was here from 1973 to sometirne in 1978. This paper sometirnes contained 16 pages. Anderson was given plenty of What it wanted: a great paperl With horoscopes, word searches, articles, very original and pleasing covers, poerns sometirnes, "Dear Gromph", editor's message and more, this paper bearing the stamp of 10 cents would have been well worth the investment 1 Our record also holds one issue of Denison's Daily fromn June of 1977. Anyone having problems then would have had the ideal paper to turn to. Not only were there "Dear Abbey" columns,. "Dear Ami Landers"' coluxnns, but also "Dear Doctor Brain" The A.C.V. Eye bas also made its way into Anderson's history, ac- cording to our material froin November o! 1978 to October 1981. This paper appears to be one with rnany articles and photographs showinig once again the bigh quality of work put into the papers at Anderson. Another paper narned Moby Press made its way into Anderson's history as well. Unfor- tunately, I wasn't able to find any dates on these papers. These papers contained editorials, "Dear Ralph" sections, comics and pictures, sometimes a story, or- even a poem. One in- teresting little saying I enjoyed is as follows: Revolution for the bell of it - I believe in com- pulsory cannablism. If people were forced to est wbat they killed, there would be no more wars. Abby Hoffinan. The present paper at Anderson is The School Spirit. The student co- editors are Donna Flet- cher, and Graham Mc- Donald. This years newspaper staff should be congratulated for their terrific effort already evident by the enjoyable papers already available. This amazing paper bas tbought-prbovoking editorials, a gossip column, a "Mirth and Madness" page and regular reportings keeping ail Ander- sonians aware of what is going on. This paper of- fers a chance for someone to laugh at silly statements etc. This bas been a peek into the past and present bistory of newspapers at A.C.V.I. Keep looking for other articles on our history to celebrate our 25 years!1 By TRACI MELCHOR Denis O'Connor H.S.
