MW. Neal, a lawyer, will serve as a provin- cial representative on the nine-member authority that manages Ontario Housing Cor- poration's 1,276 assisted housing units in Ajax, Beaverton, Bowman- ville, Cannington, Oshawa, Pickering, Port Perry, Whitby and Uxbridge. The federal, provin- cial and municipal goverrnents nominate individuals for appoin- tment to the housing authorities by provin- cial orders-in-council. The province appoints the housing authnrity chairman. The day-to-day management of OHC's 84,000 housing units is carried 'out by local housing authorities, although the primary responsibility for assisted housing SMr. Curling said: "By volunteering their time ,4o serve on the local hlousing authority, pvaecitizens such as Mr. Neal are helping to fensure that Ontario's assisted housing program is sensitive &and can respond to the V ed fthe many Scommunities lt serves. " The Durham Regional Housing Authority manages 911 senior ctznassisted housing low-income familles.
